“If we’re shortsighted and only focus on electing ideological purists that can’t win the general election, we’re not serving our party,” he said. “At the end of the day, we need to win elections. And ultimately nominating the Bill Buckner of Republican politics was probably not, in retrospect, the smartest idea.”
Brodkorb was referring to Tom Emmer, the Republican nominee for governor in 2010. Brodkorb, who blames Emmer and his staff for the party’s financial problems, said Emmer’s campaign made it difficult for the party to raise money. He also said the recount in the governor’s race added to the party’s financial problems.
—OMG this report on the infighting in the MN GOP is blowing my mind. We know these guys are something else, but man. I’d say Arne Carlson would be losing his voice from saying “I told you so”, if it weren’t so obvious that short circuiting the party by making it hyper-partisan wasn’t the Sutton/Brodkorb plan from the get-go. (via mediation)
They wanted Emmer. They hand picked him. There was a nomination process, but the party leaders groomed Emmer to win it. Sutton and Brodkorb failed and are now trying to cover their asses. Good for them. It’s hilarious. I’d give you guys some money to help out with your debt, but the Republicans in Congress just increased my payroll taxes to protect people who earn over one million dollars annually.
